Intalqi Program

Mai leads the program, Intalqi, a women’s tech empowerment program at a startup incubator in Gaza Strip. Intalqi is designed to increase the number of Gazan women who are founders of startups. Mai wants to continue to mentor women in Gaza on the development of technology.

Creative Arts for Girls Empowerment (Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund)

TechWomen alumnae Sophie Ngassa, of Cameroon, uses the power of arts and mentorship to inspire, empower, and support girls. Sophie participated in the ECA’s 2015 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund- a competition that supports efforts for alumni to utilize skills and knowledge they have gained through their exchange experiences and collaborate on projects that tackle innovative solutions to global challenges.

Refugee Girls Need You (Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund)

Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) selected the Rwanda cohort as the winner of the 2015 Competition. The AEIF competition supports efforts that promote shared values and innovative solutions to global challenges, particularly those that utilize skills and knowledge participants have gained through their exchange experiences as alumni.

Technovation

Alla Fatayer successfully led eight teams from Palestine to the submission phase of Technovation. Technovation is a global entrepreneurship competition for young women that aims to inspire and educate girls and women to solve real-world problems through technology.

Ms. Geek Rwanda

Marie Claire helped organized event Ms. Geek Rwanda, which inspires female university students in STEM. The Ms. Geek Competition is designed to inspire female university students to think critically and design solutions to issues faced by Rwandans today.  Marie Claire credits TechWomen for inspiring her to continue empowering girls in the community, and hopes to support girls through such initiatives in the future.

Organized a Girls in ICT celebration

Technovation update

Sophie Ngassa hosted a special International Women’s Day event for Technovation Cameroon participants earlier in March. Sophie invited members of the group to speak with Technovation participants, exposing them to role models in technology. The event was a success, and Sophie continues to draw on her TechWomen experience as she works to encourage innovation and the study of STEM among young women.

Sylvia is now serving as Global Ambassador to Technovation in Kenya and is recruiting girls to compete in the mobile app competition and mentors to help facilitate the design of apps. Sylvia hopes the competition  empowers girls to pursue technical fields.

The 2014 Rwanda cohort is responsible for Refugee Girls Need You, an initiative that aims at enhancing personal development among young refugee girls in Rwanda to increase their self-esteem and encourage them to dream big. The initiative will invite Rwandan women to connect with young girls and act as role models and mentors for their aspirations.

    Fellow Elmira Obry (Kazakhstan, 2022), founder of Foody.AI, represented Kazakhstan’s growing tech ecosystem at GITEX Europe, May 21 to 23 in Berlin, Germany. Foody.AI, a digital health platform that integrates artificial intelligence with nutrition science, was featured among global startups and presented directly to investors, partners and ecosystem leaders — including Zhaslan Madiyev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
    Backed by local accelerators such as Astana Hub and MOST Ventures, Foody.AI is part of a new wave of tech solutions designed to meet global health challenges through personalized, preventive approaches. It uses AI-driven tools to deliver customized nutrition guidance, helping users make data-informed decisions about their daily wellness. Already gaining early traction in five countries, the platform is preparing for broader international expansion.
    “We’re proud that our product was born in Kazakhstan — a country that is now laying the foundations for the next generation of the digital economy,” said Elmira, who also represented Foody.AI earlier this year at Central Asia Startup Cup in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.​

    Project/Action: Fellow honored as a 2025 L’Oréal Woman of Worth

    Fellow Aseel Honein (Lebanon, 2013) was recently recognized as one of L’Oréal’s Women of Worth 2025, receiving the Sustainable Architecture & Innovation Award, celebrated at a gala dinner on June 26 at Sursock Palace Gardens in Beirut, Lebanon.
    Aseel is honored for her commitment to reimagining architecture as a tool for both sustainability and social impact. In a video featured at the event, she reflected: “I forged my own path, step by step. I transformed obstacles into opportunities, and barriers into bridges.”
    Aseel is the founder of Indigo Kousba, a rural eco-tourism retreat in North Lebanon, and Parallel Studio, a design and technology academy focused on empowering youth through hands-on programs in architecture, design thinking and social innovation. Through Parallel Studio, she also created Architecture in a Box, a program that introduces children and teenagers to architecture, urbanism and cultural heritage through interactive learning and games.
    “Guided by the same passion,” she shared, “I launched Architecture in a Box, a modest initiative in scale, yet monumental in impact.”
