Mentor Application Opens March 1, 2012

TechWomen mentorships will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area over three weeks starting in early September 2012. Each Mentee will be assigned two distinct types of Mentors: one Professional and one Cultural.

Professional Mentors

Professional Mentors must be women working in technology fields at innovative companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Professional Mentors will provide guidance on  participants’ work. Professional Mentors will be matched with one Mentee. Each Professional Mentor should be prepared to coach her Mentee on a project at the Mentor’s company five days a week for three weeks. Each Mentor should plan to spend at least an hour on workdays with her Mentee during the three weeks. Professional Mentors will be selected based on the Mentor’s ability to listen effectively, to advise and inspire Mentees, and to provide flexible and objective support in a culturally-sensitive manner, as well as their commitment to sharing their skills and to the program’s overall goals.  Professional Mentors will be matched based on the Mentee’s field, level or experience, education and project interests.

Please apply to be a Professional Mentor if you are:

  • A woman who works in technology and/or a technical field the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Available to work with a Mentee for the month of September 2012
  • Able to host a Mentee at your company’s site
  • Able to coach that Mentee on a project of mutual benefit for the Mentee and your company

Cultural Mentors

Cultural Mentors will support the Mentee’s professional and personal growth and adjustment to living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cultural Mentors will be selected and matched based on their diverse backgrounds, professional field, ability to spend time with Mentees and cultural interests.

Please apply to be a Cultural Mentor if you are:

  • A woman who lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Able to support a Mentee during the month of September 2012
  • Willing to participate in dialogue that creates opportunities for mutual understanding
