Thuthukile Nicoletta Ncube

What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?

My most valuable contribution will be my "bridge-building" ability both technically and socially. As a mentee from Zimbabwe with a passion for leadership, architecture and digital strategy, I can connect my mentor's expertise with the needs of my local tech community for short and long term innovation. My mentor can gain valuable insights into Zimbabwean and emerging markets, while I gain best practices to implement back home. This will allow for a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge. I am flexible to fit into any team and am a pleasant individual to be around.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Gain practical knowledge of designing, implementing and managing secure, scalable cloud solutions
  2. Develop expertise in secure systems design principles
  3. Gain communication and collaboration skills to effectively discuss technical concepts with both technical and non-technical audiences

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Attend company meetings
  • Attend company-wide meetings and/or team meetings
  • Focus on leadership skills building
  • Have exposure to specialized industry techniques

Ideal Company Type

My ideal mentor would have a strong track record in the ICT sector. She has a leadership role, ideally C-suite, in a medium to large company and is approachable regardless of status. She has navigated complex landscapes to successfully implement technology innovations and fit for purpose cloud architecture solutions that increased profitability. Beyond technical expertise, she is passionate about strategy, leadership, mentorship and fosters a collaborative and innovative culture. I'm eager to tap from her futuristic thinking and leadership skills, while contributing my own ideas and developing my ability to drive positive change within the IT landscape.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Assertive
  2. Ambitious
  3. Driven

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

Through my mentorship, I aim to gain insights into leading tech initiatives and navigation of complex IT landscapes. This will empower me to develop strong leadership skills relevant to industry, specifically around cloud architecture, fintech and secure systems design; gain exposure to best practices used by leading companies, which I can then adapt and apply to my role upon return to Zimbabwe; expand my professional network by connecting with U.S. experts, opening doors to future collaborations and knowledge sharing.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

I aim to mentor girls and women in Dzivarasekwa township of Zimbabwe. This community lacks technology access and inspiration fueling issues that lead to deeper poverty. The TechWomen program will equip me to address immediate and longterm needs through technology. I'll use best practices acquired for targeted outreach programs like workshops to ignite passion for tech and guide young women effectively. I'll use the program's network to create partnershps with local organisations to create an ecommerce and tech hub in Dzivarasekwa. I also hope to inspire young women and create lasting change as a role model.
