Syeda Ramla Hassan

What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen host company?

I would love to utilize my skills and experience to add value to the host company. I can contribute in one or more of the following areas: Product strategy, managing software development, or helping with outsourcing it, market research and expansion plan for South Asia, social media marketing, any CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Learn to identify potential clients and their challenges, and successfully pitch software services to them.
  2. Improve my business development skills for selling software services and products to clients and investors, and connect with potential clients.
  3. Explore partnership and collaboration opportunities to grow software development business, and to set up a mobile computer lab for offering courses on coding, freelancing, etc. to women and girls.

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Have exposure to the company culture
  • Visit an office or attend a site-visit
  • Present my current work to professionals in my industry
  • Expand on a project that I’m working on in my current role at home
  • Have exposure to basic industry techniques

Ideal Company Type

I would like to work in a tech company that sells several software services and products instead of one. The ideal culture would be fun and flexible; not limited to formal corporate settings 24/7. It would be great to meet people who are working for a bigger cause or change; sharing challenges, knowledge, and solutions openly; and are excited, driven, and focused on innovating. I would absolutely love a place with positive energy that is contagious. And I would prefer in-person interactions over working remotely on my own and only having a meeting once in a while.

Additional Technical Skills

I have worked in C++, Matlab, SQL, etc., but I don't use them in my current role. Microsoft Visio, Excel, Powerpoint, and Facebook Ads Manager in addition to tools such as Slack and Basecamp are more relevant to me at the moment.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Passionate
  2. Lively
  3. Helpful

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

Working with a mentor from the tech industry could help me improve my business development skills, and learn to pitch software solutions to clients and investors. This would be important for the growth of TresLogics, and any start-ups I work with. I also plan to turn Liaison into a self-sustaining organization by setting up a mobile computer lab and offering short courses. My mentor and other participants' feedback could help me in starting this venture and creating a business plan for it. The networking events would also help me connect with industry experts as well as potential partners and clients.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

The skills and knowledge gained from the mentorship would help me expedite business development, and grow TresLogics. This would create employment opportunities, and hopefully, help many women become financially independent. I would be happy to mentor other women in STEM as well. Liaison's mobile computer lab would also empower women and girls who are not allowed to work outside homes, to start earning money through freelancing or remote jobs. Economic empowerment of women would translate to better access to resources and increased voice. And increased female labor force participation would positively impact the country's GDP.
