Limited resource to make highest impact

Solange Ngo Bama

What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen host company?

Having lived and worked in a resource-limited setting, I bring a down-to-earth problem-solving approach. I am proactive and thorough in the work I do.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Fully make Precious Lactation digital incorporating the one-stop lactation shop with online payment alongside 3D animation for lactation support
  2. Meet and interact with pioneer FEMTech companies as well as those producing lactation equipment like breastfeeding pumps and storage bags
  3. Gain insight from a mother and child health expert working with UN organizations (UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO)

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Participate in a skills-building course, either provided by my mentor’s company or identify a free resource online
  • Identify workshops or certificate programs to further my learning after the program has ended
  • Present my current work to professionals in my industry
  • Expand on a project that I’m working on in my current role at home
  • Identify a short-term project I can work on at the partnering company

Ideal Company Type

As an ideal mentorship company, I would like an entrepreneurial company focused on mother and children’s health. This company would take a social and personalized approach to solving typical problems with technology. The company would embrace apps or social media and allow me to work out the feasibility of my idea, confront the challenges and adapt the lessons to my context. I would like a company culture that is people-centric, encourages interactions and stimulates growth.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Thorough
  2. Passionate
  3. Reliable

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

The ease of transition from complete clinical practice into public health. My Precious Lactation idea can be refined via mentorship into a platform helping to do health education to improve mother and children’s health. It will help me connect with my mentor and together draw a career development plan. I hope to network enough to use that as a leverage for opportunities in the field of mother and children’s public health.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

Breastfeeding is an issue not highlighted in Africa and lactation consultants are not prevalent across the continent. I intend to mitigate this via the Previous Lactation platform. My goal is to use technology and social media to help support breastfeeding with the aim of curbing malnutrition and reducing mortality linked to it.
