The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Develop a general overview of what it's like to be an engineer in a mobile communication company and see first-hand the different roles and work responsibilities an engineer can undertake in a mobile communication network company.
  2. Learn about and develop basic knowledge of state-of-the art technologies in wireless communications and networking.
  3. Learn and gain insight into the latest hot research topics in R&D departments of top companies in the field of wireless communications.

Ideal Company Type

My ideal host company is a company in the field of wireless communications including mobile network companies. It has a research center and R&D department with active research activities on the latest hot topics in the wireless industry. It provides regular capacity-building programs to its staff, promotes a culture of creativity and innovation and engages staff in decision making and strategic planning.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Intelligent

  3. Responsible

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

This mentorship could potentially point my career in the right direction. It could open the opportunity for me to find a suitable position as a female in a communications company in Libya as having this mentorship on my resume would be a great advantage. I’m hoping to gain insights into the host company's research to feed into my own research work as a staff member in a technical college and with a Fab Lab. This mentorship could also have a long-term impact on my progression towards my desired professional path as a research engineer.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

The TechWomen program can inspire new ideas of projects to implement in my home country. First of all, I can facilitate workshops through Fab Lab Libya, the foundation I volunteer with. In these workshops I can pass on the knowledge I will gain from the program on topics like entrepreneurship. Furthermore, having participated previously in projects on entrepreneurship and STEAM education, I have been brainstorming and looking for ideas of projects that can promote a culture of knowledge. Libya has to move towards a knowledge economy and I believe I have to play my role in making this transition a reality.
