What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen host company?

As part of my career journey I have acquired critical thinking skills and learned the value of team work. I hope to participate and contribute intellectually to “data for impact” projects at my host company. I am also looking forward to establishing long-lasting partnerships that would equally benefit the host company and my country.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. To learn new technologies/skills that could be used in training
  2. To enhance my leadership and educational skills in data science for impact
  3. To learn how to engage stakeholders, policy makers and funders to create an impact

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Attend company meetings
  • Visit an office or attend a site-visit
  • Identify workshops or certificate programs to further my learning after the program has ended
  • Focus on leadership skills building
  • Exposes me to new tools and platforms

Ideal Company Type

I wish to be hosted by a multi-cultural company or organization that focuses on strengthening capacity building and training in data science and entrepreneurship skills. This is to equip me to run a successful enterprise for empowering Kenyan youth who are interested in data science and its application for social-economic impact. Further, I look forward to learning more about engaging policymakers, stakeholders, and funders in order to realize the inclusion of data science in school curricula at lower levels of the Kenyan education system.

Programming Languages

  • Perl
  • R
  • SQL

Additional Technical Skills

Over the years I have gained strong skills in genomics and biological data analysis.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Focused
  2. Bold
  3. Passionate

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

Participating in the TechWomen program will offer me a unique opportunity to connect with a wide network of visionary women with diverse talents and experiences to leverage. Exposure to different experiences from around the globe will greatly influence my career aspiration of becoming a luminary in my community. My proposed initiative of creating awareness on data science and its impact will be greatly enriched. Additionally, participation in the program will go a long way in empowering me to become a better mentor to other young women.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

I would like to lead a team in running a successful enterprise for mentoring the youth who are interested in data science and create an awareness in Kenya through conducting a train-the trainer training. A “data for impact” experience will equip me with new skills and knowledge on how to effectively transfer these skills to others as well as foster innovations to solve real world problems using technology. Connecting with my fellow participants from Kenya will create an opportunity for us to collaborate on a shared project to contribute towards achieving the Kenya’s vision 2030 on women empowerment.
