The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Expand my technical skills and knowledge in medical physics and learn about key advancements and emerging technologies currently implemented in radiotherapy or oncology departments in San Francisco Bay Area medical practices
  2. Participate in innovative medical project specializing in treatments and management of cancer using medical physics techniques or software such as Monte Carlo Simulations
  3. Develop leadership and communication skills which will result in growth and professional development allowing for mentorship and coaching of girls in my community interested in the STEM fields

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Identify workshops or certificate programs to further my learning after the program has ended
  • Focus on technical skills building
  • Identify a short-term project I can work on at the partnering company
  • Have exposure to specialized industry techniques

Ideal Company Type

My ideal company for my mentorship placement would a medical organization, institution or hospital specializing in medical physics fields such as radiotherapy, brachytherapy or nuclear medicine. I would love to be a part of an organization with medical technologies which apply physics principles in their treatments or practices. A small to medium sized organization would be ideal for me allowing for greater interaction and sharing of experiences and culture.

Additional Technical Skills

Monte Carlo Simulations; BEAMnrc software (radiation beam simulations); BEAMDP (beam data processor); DOSXYZnrc software (dose distribution); Voxel Interactive Plotting Tools

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Passionate
  2. Determined
  3. Curious

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

A mentorship opportunity is something I have not had the privilege to come across in my home country. Mentorship is key for career success as it makes a difference to learn from someone who has walked along the path you desire. I desire career guidance and professional development in my fields of interest, and I believe the mentorship will assist greatly. Growth and development of new scientific skills will allow me to have a meaningful career in the field of medical physics. In such a case I am positive my professional path will align accordingly and become clear.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

The TechWomen experience will allow me to gain leadership and mentorship skills which I would love to use in my home country. My desire is to provide career guidance for young girls who have an interest in STEM fields but lack the knowledge, expertise or exposure to do so. This experience will broaden my horizons and build new insights within me which I can use to provide career development talks for these young girls and allow them to see all the possibilities and ventures that lie in the world of STEM.
