The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. Learn more about human gene sequencing techniques and gain hands-on experience in the latest technologies of gene editing, such as CRISPR technology, as well as whole genome sequencing and next generation sequencing technology.
  2. Improve my skills regarding bioinformatics and how to use the sequencing output to eventually get informative data, for use in diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Gain remarkable experience on both professional and personal levels from mentors and colleagues, gain a deeper view on different amazing cultures, spend an unforgettable time with the most amazing women leaders and create a network of collaborations and friendships.

Additional Technical Skills

Lab skills (blood sampling, bone marrow aspirations, microscopic examination of stained blood films and diagnosis of wide scale of hematological diseases and cancers); lab devices (complete blood count, blood chemistry analysis, blood coagulation, blood gases and analytes devices); ELISA immunological techniques; flow cytometry; high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); both conventional and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of DNA gene mutations; separation of donated blood components and performing platelet concentrate sessions on the Aphaeresis device

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

This mentorship will have a profound effect on both the technical and the managerial aspects of my career. Technically speaking, my goal is to expand my experience and improve my skills in genetic sequencing and editing techniques and become acquainted with the latest technology in and learn more about how to use the outcome data to benefit medicine. Concerning the managerial aspect, the TechWomen program is an opportunity to improve my leadership and management skills, gain more self-trust, and realize my potential against future challenges.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

After participation in this remarkable experience, I intend to use everything I learned and experienced to benefit people in my community. More hands-on experience in genetics will allow me to establish and run a department genetics lab to offer help to patients. I’m going to inspire and encourage my students to pursue their dreams, and that, despite limited resources, nothing is impossible. Communicating with women leaders from different cultures will help me have a broader view and perspective of life, and I’ll be keen on transferring this to my students and patients.
