Fionah Umulisa

What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?

My most valuable contribution to my TechWomen mentorship lies in my expertise in emerging markets, particularly Africa. I can provide valuable insights into this dynamic landscape, aiding my mentor in understanding market intricacies and potential opportunities. Together, we can brainstorm strategies to penetrate these markets, focusing on pricing and partnerships. Additionally, I offer guidance on current tech trends, ensuring my mentor stays ahead. With my knowledge, my mentor can gain a deeper understanding of emerging markets, unlocking new possibilities for their products and ventures, and sharing this insight with their colleagues for collective growth and innovation.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. How tech products go to scale from US to international markets.
  2. How the culture of tech companies in Silicon Valley was and is being formed.
  3. Learn how various tech companies raise funds and about their journeys to IPO.

Ideally, they have a proven track record of founding and scaling a billion-dollar company from humble beginnings. In addition to their entrepreneurial prowess, my ideal mentor embodies a commitment to transparency and integrity, fostering a culture of openness and trust within their organization.

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Open Minded
  2. Productive
  3. Resourceful

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

I envision that collaborating with a U.S.-based mentor will significantly impact my career and professional path by providing invaluable guidance, mentorship, and access to networks and opportunities. Through this collaboration, I aim to broaden my perspective, enhance my skills, and build lasting relationships that will propel me towards my professional goals. Additionally, I anticipate gaining insights into global best practices and innovative approaches, which will empower me to make meaningful contributions to my field and drive positive change within my community and beyond.

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

After participating in the TechWomen program, I intend to leverage my experience to drive impactful change in my home country by implementing innovative solutions and sharing newfound knowledge and insights. I will collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to apply tech-driven approaches to address pressing challenges and empower communities. Additionally, I will mentor aspiring entrepreneurs and technologists, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship to spur economic growth and social development.
