What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?

My experience building developer communities can be invaluable in creating a supportive network for those I collaborate with. I hope to be able to use my expertise to foster a close knit community and leverage on peer learning groups as a way to build and learn. Given the chance, I hope to run workshops that would encourage more of my mentors' colleagues to share their indepth expertise with others and take charge.

The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship

  1. How to effectively document strategy documents, progress and learnings.
  2. Understand how to navigate different career paths (I.e., Program management to Product Manager or Team Lead)
  3. How to build a personal brand.

Mentorship Characteristic

  • Identify workshops or certificate programs to further my learning after the program has ended
  • Focus on leadership skills building
  • Identify a short-term project I can work on at the partnering company

Ideal Company Type

My ideal mentor should have great communication skills , proven record of helping build scalable products while working with cross-functional teams of five plus individuals . My ideal mentor should be someone who is hands-on and be able to point me to the best resources and networks that can help me grow in a personal and professional way .

What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?

  1. Team-player
  2. Visionary
  3. Goal-oriented

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?

I hope that this collaboration will enable me interact with someone who has a global perspective on the tech space and can share insights on how to implement some best practices that is beyond my local context . This may be a great chance to understand different work culture and how to ensure inclusivity more so when working with a diverse group of people (culture , background , language e.t.c.)

After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?

I would like to start a local TechWomen Chapter in Kisumu , Kenya that would connect women tech mentors to young girls and women who are aspiring to start careers in the tech space . This I hope to achieve through peer to peer mentorship , partnerships , in-person and virtual gatherings .I also would like to start a virtual tech hub that focuses on ensuring existance of culturally relevant content so that language barrier does not become a limitation for accessing internet .
