What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
A TechWomen mentorship will give me a platform to learn about sustainable and economical ways to provide potable water and sanitation to rural areas. The world's resources are being depleted at an alarming rate, and South Africa is currently experiencing a water shortage. This mentorship will allow me to learn from masters in the industry. I want to bring the knowledge back home where I can implement it and make an impact in my industry and country. It will also provide me with the confidence and networks to encourage more women to enter the field of engineering.
What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen host company?
My vibrant personality and hard working attitude are my biggest strengths. I also have the ability to think quickly and willingness to help. To me, this is an extremely exciting possibility for great knowledge sharing. My host company will also get an opportunity to see the challenges we experience in South Africa; I can provide my host company with the opportunity to come up with innovative solutions that can actually be implemented in my country. I will be able to challenge my host company in a positive way to think differently - not just technically but socially, as well.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
I will create a network with other Emerging Leaders in the TechWomen program, and I will share the knowledge with my industry peers and apply it in communities around the mines that I work with. I hope to learn about new sustainable technologies for the preservation of water. I am passionate about encouraging young girls to pursue a career in civil engineering, as it is the backbone of any society. There is a low percentage of female graduates who stay in the industry; I want to change this and the network and relationships I will form during the TechWomen program will make this happen.
