I applied for TechWomen because…

Emerging Leaders

Seventy-eight incredibly talented emerging leaders will arrive in the United States on October 1, 2013. Over the next few months, we hope to paint a picture of these inspirational women and give you a behind-the-scenes look at their unique aspirations.

In order to get to know one another, they started a conversation about their reasons for applying to the TechWomen Program. Read on for their responses.

I am passionate about science and technology.

“I have a dream of improving my company and country using ICT.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Rwanda

“For someone like me obsessed with high technology, the Silicon Valley is more than a dream. I applied to TechWomen because I want to discover this new world, also to challenge myself. Am I the woman that I think I am?” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Algeria

I am hungry for new experiences.

“I applied to jump out of the academia box, match what I teach to what can serve people, inspire all those young marvelous ladies I teach and convince them that we can make it.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Egypt

“For me, although I’m an engineer, technology is not the key word for me. It is the whole experience that attracted me to apply: starting from learning from each one of you, your culture, your knowledge and your way of doing things, to learning from one of the fastest developing cities in the world.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Libya

I want to experience the magic of Silicon Valley.

“I applied because I am curious about the Silicon Valley entrepreneur companies. I want to see the people behind it, how they think, act and succeed.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Jordan

“I am amazed by Silicon Valley’s start-up ecosystem and would love to get a firsthand experience of that.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Egypt

I am working to inspire the next generation.

“I want to show young people, that technology, STEM, is not for the elite and you don’t have to do the traditional stuff. We can start developing our own programs, medicines, etc., whilst still in school.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, South Africa

“To live this experience, to share it with young girls in my country, to encourage them, and last but not the least, to have the opportunity to meet awesome and talented women from various cultures.” – 2013 Emerging Leader, Cameroon

I applied in TechWomen because It was an amazing opportunities to improve my mindset thinking as an entrepreneur/leader ,
I love and I am in tech field . I want to know what big companies from USA do to get to success ! to sustain! I want to understand the strategies they are using and then apply that with my company and inspire other girls/women with tangible real examples.

I applied with NO hope that they can select me but It happened, it s now the best proof to tell other girls/women that when you do thing you have to do with passion you can get where success people are , improve ourselves as well as our country.
The key now to inspire other girls/women is to have a clear understanding of what we want to accomplish, set goals to get there, do it now and a dream comes a reality.

    Dear 78 ladies,
I applied for the program in the year of 2012 and couldn’t attend for personal reasons, but I’m sure you’ll have the experience of your life as per my amazing fellow mentees who attended last year.
I wish you the best, and hope you would take it a step further after you go back home.

    My sincere regards & love,
    Haneen
